'The Amazing North to West by the Centre'

We head across to Broome Via Katherine, after going north through N.S.Wales, Queensland

A year ago we started on our voyage by land and completed the eastern half, and on the 1st June 2003 we set off on this western half and arrived home on the11th August a week ahead of the planed itinerary.
We had very few problems with our Van and tow car, just the normal things one would expect to have over a 25,000 km haul. a couple of new tyres, a few screws loose on the van, otherwise all went exceptionally well.

Our journey this time started in Melbourne North to the New South Wales town of Griffiths for an overnight stop before we tackled the long trip up the center of New South Wales to Queensland via the Kidman Way, journeying through the outback towns of Hillston. Gilgunnia, Cobar and the Bourke, (Back o' Burke),  where we stayed at the Kidman Camp on the Darling River, for two days to take in the first taste of the outback, where we sat in on a Bush Poets night around a Campfire and had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

We head of north again via Cunnamulla in Queensland, Charleville,
Had a Night with:-
The Bush Poets

Chris and I have for the past five years been performing our bush verse and yarn show, Laughter and Tears from the Bush along the Matilda Highway in Queensland and for the last three years at the Bailey Bar Caravan Park at Charlieville. We have met so many folk over the years and we would like to let them know that we now have a new web site and would love them to have a browse and say g'day. http://www.bushpoets.go.to

email: bushpoets@go.to All the best for 2003

Then thru Augathella and Blackall, Barcaldine, Longreach, where we visited the the original starting of our great Qantas Airlines first home Port. the museum was very grand, and of course the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which was started by our Rev John Flynn, to service the great Australia Outback with a Visiting Doctor and Nurse, onto Winton where we visited the Vast Section of Dinosaurs Footprints that have laid there for many thousand of years .backed in the mud and preserved for time.

We then travelled then to Winton, Cloncurry and stayed over in Mt Isa for three days sightseeing, incl My Isa Copper Mines and many local Historical Sight of interest.
Having rested thoroughly we undertook the crossing over to the Northern Territory via a tough road through Camooweal to Barkley Homestead and onto Tennant Creek ( where we joined a section of highway that we travelled on our last trip to Daly Waters

(A great Pub) on the Daly River, the oldest Pub in the NT, Great photos; then on to Katherine, where we relaxed for a week and enjoyed our stay at the lower Lever Big4 Caravan Park, before heading west for the first time into Western Australia.

We have now Finished the first Two Weeks, while a lot of the k's travelled, were covered on our last trip, from now on it is all virgin territory.
