Page Two of Our Trip North to Burketown As
you can see by the photo opposite, where we were successful in trapping
a large haul of Yabbies (fresh water crayfish)
We had a very nice rest-over here, but still had a
long way to go before we reached our start of Holiday point at Gregory
Downs Cattle Station
We Join the Capricorn Highway here at
Emerald, and make our way to Barcaldine, Longreach (Where the QANTAS
Pavilion is situated), we stayed overnight here before moving onto
Winton, (Where the two vans seperate I go North to new territory, and
Doug and his wife go across to Mt Isa) (I had been there last trip) I
joined the Kennedy Development Road to Hughenden, and then onto
Richmond,
where we stayed for two days and took-in the Richmond Exhibition of
Prehistoric Dinosaurs that have been found all around this Area of
Central Queensland,
We are closer to our start....As we head now to
Gregory Downs. via Julia Creek, Cloncurry, Burke and Wills Roadhouse,
and onto Gregory Downs,
(Doug joins us again) where we stayed for Two days on the Gregory
River, and it was beautiful place to prop. We moved onto Lawn Hill
120ks away to spend 5 days in the Lawn
Hill National Park. These roads are all
unsealed and rough at times, Doug Lost his Television after he hit one
too many potholes. it came unstuck and landed on the floor.
As you can see by the Photo on the right there
is not a Green Blade of Grass to be seen as the North is in the middle
of a Long Drought, and the water is very scarce, even the trees are
brown, or covered in the Red Bull dust of the Northern Outback
I had a problem when after shutting the back
door of the Prado, I had inadvertently had the back carpet jamming the
rear door partially opened, and of course the Prado filled up with Bull
Dust very quickly.. Ugggh.
We had a very pleasant stay there doing the
Park Walks, canoeing on the river, taking photos, and in general
relaxing and enjoying the solitude of a Green Oasis in the Desert
